If You’re Going to Spend… Spend on Experiences

As the year winds down, if there’s anything that helps with stress and keeping our sanity through life’s ups and downs, it’s experiences—especially the ones we truly enjoy, the ones that fill our hearts and bring back joy. For me, two things light me up: concerts and travel.
There’s nothing like going to an event to have fun—surrounded by people who (mostly) came for the same thing: to be authentic, to sing, dance, and enjoy without shame. To sing at the top of your lungs, go out with friends or family, and share that contagious energy. That vibe stays with you for days.
And even though I love being at home 100%—my refuge, my routines, my cats—I also savor these plans. If you’re hesitating about that play, that concert, or that trip that’s been on your mind… don’t overthink it: go. Enjoy it. Because when we’re no longer here, it won’t matter what we owned, but who we were and what we enjoyed.

Mini-Manifesto (for when you need a nudge)
Happiness doesn’t stockpile: you live it.
Memories gain value; things don’t always.
Stepping out of routine widens your perspective.
Sharing experiences strengthens bonds.
Sticking to a budget doesn’t clash with enjoying life (there are options for everyone).
Want to start today?
Check your city’s cultural calendar for next month and pick a play/concert.
Open an “experiences fund” (envelope, app, jar): a fixed weekly amount.
Plan a simple escape: a museum, a picnic, a different walking route.
Make a wish list: the place you’ve always wanted to visit, the artist you dream of seeing live.
Spend on what stretches your soul. The rest—within reason.
